I carry on, even though I now realize that Peter De Vries had never ever been to Kalamazoo. But, I suppose, Glenn Miller never had either. And don't even ask me about Harry Warren or Mark Gordon. (However, if you know Gordon Perkins, John Brewer, Glen Stine, or Pauline Sattler, give me a howdy-do.)

I've only just started Peter De Vries' novel titled Slouching Towards Kalamazoo and it's already too cute by nine halves. (I mean Run from the Room Screaming while Pulling your Hair Out cute!) Should I toss this one in the trash?

Reminds me a little of Tea and Sympathy, but funnier. A vocabularian's delight. Also reminds me a little of the Chet and Bernie stories. Chet, a dog, is the narrator of exploits with his human detective, and narrates well but with canine limitations. Slouching is narrated by Tony, 15, a widely read human. I enjoyed De Vries' "Mackerel Plaza" and "Blood of the Lamb" 50-60 years ago, figured I'd take a second look.
