Status Updates From While You Slept

I enjoyed the ending though wouldn't have minded little longer of an epilogue and a bit more reflection from Sion before he headed out after her.

He's been fighting with her for what? 100 pgs to get her to say she loves him then 10 pgs later he says he doesn't believe her. Very much the "if it's not my way on my terms it's wrong" mentally, this is what I'm talking about with the emotional abuse I see from him. He's not abusive in the same way her father and husband were/are busy still hurts and manipulates her to get what he wants.

I liked Mrs. T in the first part of the book but I'm not sure why Danny continually refers to her as her friend when she's not actually very nice to her and continually talks down to her. I've liked her less and less as the book does on, and you're suppose to like the spunky housekeepers.

Then parts of this book are so good. I feel like the plot idea is/was amazing. It should have been told in 2 parts though. And a few scenes needed to be cut out and more research done on how someone physically and mentally abused for 20 years would actually behave and how their part should act would have been better.
Perhaps a better editor is what this book was missing.

He's describing himself of how he was when he and Tory fell in love, it doesn't really match up with how it seemed earlier in the book, but it describes how he is now.

He really is a dunce sometime, and selfish/self-centered(?).
How will they ever be married and reveal the truth of who she is if they go out to a society ball now with her as the contessa???

This paragraph makes no sense. Why even ask what to tell Sion about Camden catching her with Timothy? Then saying to keep it a secret??? She should already know he'll find out especially when you bring the nanny home as your new house guest. How is this going to stay a secret??? Just another bit that should have been cut from the book.

"He had the urge to do violence" why did he get so violent and abusive in this half of the book???
It's not like he doesn't know her past and her insecurities, he just notes them on the previous page. Snapping at her age threatening violence will only reinforce them because of her past.

--She could have easily gone on an outing to see his grandmother just like she does to go shopping and it would have given the same results.

I feel like that whole thing with him thinking she was going for a drive with her husband and locking her in her room then her tricking him so she could get out then her coming home and having everyone hate her then him abuse her physically/mentally/emotionally was all unnecessary. --

And did he call Tory all of these names? Bitch/witch in bed she whatever?
Why can't he let her express anything? He tells her how she feels. Gets mad when she cries of clams up when that's all she's known for 20+ years. This author really needed to do some mental health research.

OMG now he's physically abusing her even when she's telling him to stop because he's hurting her. Name calling. Telling her she's a callous bitch who can't feel anything. Yeah this book is rapidly going down hill. Talk about all the markings of an abusive relationship. Cutting her off from people, blaming his anger on her, "why do you make me hurt you" type of thing. This is disgusting.

Hurt her how she hurt him???
How on earth did she hurt him? She is playing her own game against her father and husband and she has every right to do that. HE'S the one who locked her in her room because she was trying to get more info on them and he didn't like it.

It's one thing to enjoy "banter" it's another when it becomes abusive which it seems to border on a couple of times in this book which REALLY surprises me for this hero after how he lost his wife and our heroine's past. You'd think he'd be the opposite.

She was already depressed that morning and at the verge of tears the day before.
She very clearly from the beginning explained she wants to be indecent, if he doesn't want her that way then he should be man enough to let her go.

Locking her in her room? Yeah that's real mature of a lover. Treating her like her father did, not giving her the freedoms of choice and mentally/emotionally abusing her. This book is good then you get something like this that knocks it down.

Now Camden is giving Edward/Timothy blood in his water thinking this will make him his blood. Wow...just wow...

I don't know if these chs are bipolar or what but they have major mood swings from ecstatic to angry to shutting off emotions to silly over the top manic laughter all within one or two pages. I keep waiting for them to even out but I think maybe the author just doesn't have a good grasp of them and maybe should have done some research into abuse victims and depressive disorders.

And this whole new name = a new personality this is just bizarre. She has so much emotional baggage it just won't work that way, she's always going to have "Katherine" reactions to things, like when Sion is angry or aggressive she is going to instinctively fear she is going to be beat. You can't untrained 20 years of something in a few months just because you changed your name.

These last 30 pages or so have been so convoluted. She tells him he hurt her by saying she disgraced his dead wife by wearing her dress, no surprise, then he claims he didn't say that?! We have it in the book!!! He was upset about the painting then grew more so when he saw her in the dress and stormed out to her I the gardens literally scaring her into stripping in front of him and Ned so she would be beaten.

What is going on??? Are they vampires now, biting each other?

And seriously how did he not know acting like a crazed animal was going to go bad? He knows she's been physically, mentally, and emotionally abused by her father literally all of her life that she can remember. He should have known he would need to go slow with her.

He didn't stop when she said "no". Now she literally feels lower than a whore, and he's apologizing for "letting it go this far". This sounds like a Lifetime movie where the high schooler is sexually assisted by one of her guy friends. Sooo disappointed right now in how the author played out the first sexual experience for our already very abused heroine.

Seems a little rapy compared to the rest of the book. Sort of "I know she wanted it, I could see it in her eyes" but she never says yes, or "but she let me take off her clothes" when he actually physically ripped them off her body surging their fight when she was running away.

This scene is a bit weird. Yes we knew he was going to get upset when she wore one of his dead wife's dresses and they'd fight about it. But she gave it back during their fight then he chased her then manhandled her into her room where he wants to suddenly have sex with her when we've not seen anything really growing from between them besides that one kissing scene. And nothing from her at all.

Now she has an eating disorder??? I get she's been physically abused all her life for things beyond her control like being a girl or her mom dying while miscarrying another girl and food was a coupling mechanism but the author along with the heroine and those around her are all implying that only a thin pretty woman is worthy of love and that's so very sad.

I'm not sure about this name changing. I get she doesn't want anyone she use to know, namely her abusing father and husband to know she alive, but to be constantly referred to by another name has a slightly odd, maybe mental illness side to it(?). But on the other had if she's going for revenge it could be The Count Of Monte Cristo take.

I was kind of afraid this was going to happen. They author turned her from BBW to overly thin while she's in a coma. So now she'll be "perfect" when she wakes and gets her health back. :( it'd be nice for a mass market book to have an average heroine in it.

Our poor heroine. Her father and husband sound awful. I can only hope that they will get their comeuppance. I think this book is going to be a bit heavier compared to the ones I've been reading lately.
I do LOVE though that our heroine is BBW :) you don't often get that in a historical romance. Though usually are such a specific sub-genre they're hard to find.
