Melissa: *goes through her daughter’s trash, reads her daughter’s journal, looks through her daughter’s call logs, has other students spy on her daughter at school* Why doesn’t my daughter trust me?

The mother calling her daughter a “manipulator from a young age” and refusing to get her tested for her clearly neurodivergent behavior is giving me the ICK. I feel like she talks about her daughter less as a person and more of an extension of herself, or even a misbehaving pet. I hope the mother takes more accountability later in the book.
