At first, I did not expect this to surpass Inferno, although it’s richness of contrast to Inferno, the word choice, imagery, and theming are so profound. Profound I say—that which the reader emerges from one lower state to a higher one.

Very interesting to get a taste of Dante; the writing was not as difficult to understand as I thought it would be, but the end notes were definitely needed. It prompted me to contemplate purgatory on a level I had not before. I couldn’t finish it at this time, but would definitely like to return to it at a later date.
