To think I nearly put this on queue. Sometimes I just need to stop and read again. THIS is an amazing book.

I almost stopped it because it was too crazy but then I read it again and it was like a full wind blow of enjoyment.

Severian sure has a knack for hooking up with women who are out to kill him.

Wow, this is MUCH more action-packed than any of the previous books.

The description of passing through what I have to guess is some sort of stargate blew my mind, especially as it was narrated by an (for all intents and purposes) medieval/renaissance educated man.

Seemed the right time to read this, while the general flow and essence of the story are reasonably fresh in mind. I'm struck immediately (not for the first time) by the ease of Wolfe's prose. You could read this book so quickly, but that would be missing the point.

Not bad, but it just didn't have the same spirit as the previous books. All the things that Gene Wolfe hinted at and made mysterious were presented here flat out and, in doing so, he sucked some of the magic out.

Events are starting to clarify themselves now. It's a little annoying how Severian keeps mentioning characters from the previous books (there were a lot of them), as it's been awhile since I read them.

Starts off with quite a leap in time. Not quite sure what's happening, but then, it is Gene Wolfe. I'll just enjoy the ride and assume events will get clarified (to some extent) eventually.

Gene, you books are fascinating and beautifully unique, but they're also so dang hard to read.

This book isn't bad, but it's certainly not up to the standard of the rest of the Book of the New Sun. Haven't had a ton of time to read lately, need to power through the rest of this one.

Don't really know what's going on...per usual, for Gene Wolfe. A lot of action in this one; not sure if I like that, actually.

I'm very excited to read this book. I've read the previous book(s) in this series twice. Oh the mysteries and puzzles this will unlock!
