This book reassure 1 things that I want to deny which is I’m so bad at math. At first I expected something which is more practical and applicable into real world. However after 3-4 chapters I think that i should give up reading it because I hardly understand what it is trying to imply.
I still think that this book will be more suitable for ones who have background in math at least to grasp its ideas

Complete PART IV: Regression. It provides great insights into regression to the mean, with case studies on businesses tending toward mediocrity over time, average heights stabilizing, and more. The section on Pearson’s formulas and their role in understanding relationships between higher-dimensional vectors is particularly intriguing.

For math geeks who love a good sentence. Made me smile as I read through it, highly recommend.

3/5 parts completed.
The first part about Linearity is the most intuitive; I enjoyed much of this; probability of large numbers was introduced towards the end.
The second is about inference topics. Few parts were newly presented, but much includes fluffy examples. Enjoyed in parts.
The third part is another partly statistics-related section. It’s about expectation. I like some parts of signal processing, etc.

I got this book to combat and balance out the brain rot I’ve been reading as of late. It also looked like the kind of book you’d see on the nightstand of a toxic man. So, I was intrigued.
I’m approx. 20 pages in and the authors Libertarian political opinions have already jumped out pretty overtly, oooooop.

Loving it. The author writes on how to think mathematically.

It’s interesting to re-play in my mind that math is common sense. It reminds me of doing calculations in engineering school. Looking back, I wish I was able to be more deeply interactive with math rather than be performative towards an end of semester evaluation that I didn’t much care for. The author’s voice thus far has me interested in what’s to come.

The author gave a glimpse of what to expect from this book. How mathematics has been taught in real life and how it is intertwined is it with the nature are some sections in the book that makes the audience incline more towards reading this book

Chapter three has a great discussion on the math wars, traditionalists vs reformists.

Started reading again. Will probably be interesting. Learned about the Laffer curve. There’s also a bit of history of mathematics tossed in.

Overall it has been a well put together popular maths book. Of course a couple of the examples I already knew, these books have a propensity to bring up the same examples. But only a few cases here. Ellenberg puts things quite enjoyably. He’s sometimes wise and funny simultaneously.
Only complaint could be, sometimes he explains too much ”like im 5” every step.
+ I gotta accept reading books slowly over a long time.

Im trying to be a more well rounded readed. Or in math terms im trying to be x^2 + y^2 = 1
