The author was one of my math professors in college. I hope this book will be as enjoyable as his discrete mathematics lectures (and as much of a nerd as I am, I never thought I'd describe a math lecture as "enjoyable" until his class).

I will want to read this book again, at least for the epilogue and the motivation that it can provide.

This week I read many books, looking for this one. I am on page 18 of a very interesting dense book. I will continue to read this throughout spring break.

Крута історія про піфагорійців, які не хотіли їсти боби, бо начебто у них знаходяться душі померлих.

Interesting if you love math. If you don’t, you may find it boring.

Listening to jazz and reading about math is kind of like going to church to me.

on page 2 and he's already answering the question "when will i actually USE this?" and he's made a compelling analogy to soccer drills. "if the drills are too much for you to take, you can still play for fun, with friends. You can enjoy the thrill of making a slick pass... just as much as a pro athlete does." just can't help but wonder again why sports are so much more relatable than anything else

One of the best books about math. Its lecture is easy, but a lil bit boring in its middle. Getting better once again in its end.
I really recommend this book to everyone who wants to increase the comom sense knowledge

If I have to read one more word about the fucking lottery, I'm burning this book.
(not really since I got it from the library, but still.)

1. beginning to feel like reading this is a chore.
2. I don't share (or understand) Ellenberg's adoration of Pascal's Wager which is making that section particular dull.

Countries don’t win wars just by being braver than the other side, or freer, or slightly preferred by God. The winners are usually the guys who get 5% fewer of their planes shot down, or use 5% less fuel, or get 5% more nutrition into their infantry at 95% of the cost. That’s not the stuff war movies are made of,That’s not the stuff war movies are made of, but it’s the stuff wars are made of.

Thought provoking in that it makes you look a topics in mathematics differently. It is intellectually challenging to understand, but no heavy math background is needed.

Already I would reccomend a hard copy instead of the audio book. Not that I don't like the writers spoken version but I can follow the the equasions and mathmatical formulas with ease on paper. Invisioning them in your mind however takes a certain amount of focus I don't always possess when listening to an audiobook.
