Status Updates From A Hint of Witchcraft

20 pages, 2 chapters to go. At this point I'm going to be really mad if a coven of witches jump out of a bush on the 2nd last page and announce that they were behind all the tragic circumstances the whole time. There has been no witchcraft, supernaturalness, or even anything spooky and Gilbert better not have tried to shove it at the last second. I'm at two stars at the moment, but there's still time to drop to one.

This is called 'A Hint of Witchcraft', and I'm wondering exactly what Gilbert considered a 'hint', because so far all we have is the brother of Margot, the main character, behaving like he's been bewitched by Linden (the 'witch'). But women have been 'bewitching' men for thousands of years, she wouldn't need to be using witchcraft to hold his attention. When's the real supernatural stuff going to start happening?

'Linden never talked about herself, never exchanged confidences. Perhaps that was why she was so interesting - intriguing, like an unopened book whose contents may be dull but will not be found to be so long as they remain unread.'

Please don't let that be a Freudian slip to the readers of this book!!

The way the characters are introduced is so roundabout that I've had to reread a number of passages in order to work out who's who and how their all related to each other - a rather inauspicious start.

An average of 2.8.? That's not very encouraging!! : (
