Being in the dark is definitely part of the effect. It is compelling in part because of its fast pace and because it peeks a lot of curiosity.

At this point I would say naturally curious people ae going to like this book a lot as there is a lot to try to tease out, and it moves quickly as well.

This book is really compelling, even though (or maybe because) I feel really in the dark. This might be a book one has to read multiple times to really appreciate. There is a lot I don't understand and I'm not sure if I should be understanding it or not, yet I just want to keep reading. The in-the-darkness may also be for affect given the main character's situation.

That first chapter was surprisingly dense. I can already tell this universe is going to have a lot to it, I just hope I can get to understand/remember the canon!
