I know this narrator is supposed to be unreliable but the narrator is also unlikable and I don’t love it.

Okay I haven’t been a big fan of this one, but this line made me laugh out loud: “Frederico was like a Narcissus who’d read Freud but, instead of being horrified, had been moved.”

إن كتابة هذا لمن القسوة ولكن الواقع أشد وطأة، ثم قائمة الاتهامات الأخلاقية. كانت قائمة عيوب المُتَّهَم مصحوبة على الدوام بقائمة مُضمرة من فضائل المُتَّهِم.

أضمرت أمنية سرية، وبالأحرى اليقين السري، بأني يوما ما سأصبح ذاتي أنا، سأصير الصورة التي كنت أبلورها لسنوات.

كنت إذن مجرد هبة هواء، محض أثر، نفخة دخان...
كنت أحيا حياة معتوهة، لكني أحببتها. أبقيت على مسافة ميتافيزيقية بيني وبين الناس والأشياء، وراق لي الأمر. أحسست كأني شبح، وأحببت ذلك أكثر من أي شئ آخر.

من الأحسن أن تترك مقاعد خاوية على الطاولات التي تشاركها حيناً مع الأصدقاء، ليس مجازا، إنما حقيقة، تخل عن كرسي، كن لأصدقائك فجوة، دع دائرة الصوت من حولك تتضخم وتمتلئ بالتخمينات

وكان ثمة عاصفة مطرية صيفية كتلك العواصف التي لا يهب مثيلٌ لها إلا في مكسيكو سيتي ومومباي

لقد أحببت المقابر والحدائق العامة وشرفات أسطح المباني، لكني أحببت المقابر أكثر من أي شيء آخر !

بينما تسرد الراوية القصة تجد أن شبكة واقعها الحالي قد تهرأت وأخذت تتقطع. ويأتي الخيال هنا ليرفو بخيطه الواقع وليس العكس، كما ينبغي أن يكون. فلا خيال ولا الواقع يمكن التضحية .. وتذكري بأن كل شئ هو خيال أو ينبغي أن يكون متخيلا.

ارتحل عن حياة تحياها. انسف كل شئ. لا، ليس كل شئ: انسف حيز المتر المربع الذي تشغله بين الناس.. ليس مجازا إنما حقيقة.. دع دائرة الصمت من حولك تتضخم وتمتلئ بالتخمينات. وما سيتفهمه قلة من الأشخاص حينذاك هو أنك تهجر حياة لتبدأ حياة غيرها.
