Brief outline of contextual family therapy (which I recently learned about in class!) and how it relates to intergenerational wounds from childhood. The author presents how those wounds may come up in couple interactions and cause destructiveness. She emphasizes the importance of filial maturity, or seeing parents with adult eyes. I thought her call out of our “parent-blaming culture” was really eye-opening.

Vulnerability cycle diagram is a useful tool for showing the concept of circular causality to clients and increasing their curiosity rather than feelings of blaming & victimhood
Favorite advice from chapter 7: (1) “Bringing prefrontal awareness to limbic reactivity can be liberating” - stop and pause. (2) celebrating “sparkling moments” of change with clients
