This book has a weird lack of illustrations. A few of the vignettes would have made great full illustrations. You can kind of see how AG toned it down with them from 2000-2012

Also, I like the small detail of how Julie is struggling to eat her lunch but TJ is doing just fine with his. It shows how this situation is impacting them mentally. How Julie is having a hard time because she's so upset and nervous about what has happened, and TJ not being as emotionally invested in what happned to the WFG.

I like how this plot line isn't just "Julie wins against super popular kid automatically because she is the main character" and she actually has to work hard. This is one of the very few books where I have seen realistic representation of a elementary-middle school popularity system, which I heavily applaud.

This plot of Julie and Joy having to work together and Julie not liking it because people bully joy, especially for the way she talks, reminds me of the book Rebecca and Ana. Also, I like how Julie doesn't automatically win and actually has to work hard for her campaign.

Just going to relive my childhood summer reading challenges until I’m motivated to read what I normally do
