I'm on Chapter 5 but I can't appreciate this book. I feel like this will be another dnf. 😰

He didn't miss the way her eyes followed his arms, watched his chest as it flexed. He had to resist the urge to flex again for her. He did his best to keep his gaze where it belonged, on her fingers as she worked to simple guitar chords of the song she was trying to learn.

To be honest, I skimmed much of the epilogue. The whole event was very... cliché? I don't know. Obviously it was important, but it was also very generic. Sorry to say that, really.

Maybe that’s just blind, a salve to my conscience like the bitter, jaded nonbelievers say.
Shit got real. If he's calling me jaded for not believing in God or claiming I'm too jaded for not believing in God, that's fucking offensive either way.

But it helps to believe that there’s a plan I’m too small to see.
And if that "plan" includes letting young boys and girls be raped, beaten, or exploited in any other way, that's a fucked up god's plan.

That’s a fact as immutable as sunrise and sunset and the basic physics of the universe.
Now you're deliberately trying to piss me off, aren't you?

I’ve seen men who should be dead get up and walk away and kiss their wives and kids, and the only explanation is that God protected them.
Again, no. There will be a million different explanations for that. I get it; I'm not meant to read this book because I don't believe in God, am not religious.

And you want me to believe a man who has a bullet wound is able to "do all the work" during sex?

And are you truly that fucking stupid, Wren? You've been hooked on drugs that were induced in you by needles that's been used on a large number of people and you think birth control will protect Stone from STDs?

Hey, we're running from people who are trying to kill us. You've been shot and I'm on withdrawals from drugs. We're obviously alert so it doesn't matter that we take a break to have sex.

She should pray for Cervantes. Turn the other cheek. Trust God to have a plan, even in the midst of this terror.
And this is the reason why I'm not religious. (Cervantes is the leader of the organization that planned to rape/abuse/sell her as a sex slave.)

Even tied up, in pain, drug-fogged and addled, terrified and alone, she shivered at the thought of Stone Pressfield.
Yes, while you're waiting to get raped/abused/violated, you'll be "shivering" for another man.

I trust that God will protect me.
If you're religious, then fine. This won't bother you. But me? I'm not religious, and this does not work for me. It'll be different for others, I'm sure.

He’d experienced death and felt the presence of God. He’d witnessed miracles. Bullets that should have taken his life, missing without any explanation. Grenades landing at his feet and not exploding.
This is so not my style. And trust me, there's a reason those bullets missed and those grenades didn't detonate.
