I really don't know why I still bother with this one...

Wish I had more time so I could read more at once. So far it's been a quick read, with a good main character and the story line does seem interesting even so early in the book. I think this will be a good book, and I have high hopes for it :)

I am much preferring the first part of this book to the second.

Am much preferring the second half of this book to the first.

Still reading this very slowly.

Wow. Just finished reading Sweet Smell of Decay a few minutes ago. It's been a while since a novel drew me in so thoroughly, kept me turning pages with such anticipation. And mind you, historical mysteries are not my usual fare. It'll take me several days to write a fitting review for Mr. Lawrence's novel. Meanwhile, I'd urge anyone looking for a well-written, entertaining, edge-of-your-seat tale to pick up a copy.

I love that this novel hits the ground running with the murder of Harry Lytle's cousin thus teaming him with the butcher, Davy Dowling, to solve the case. Descriptions are gory and great!

Chapter 16 - Shoreditch was a little hamlet beyond the city walls to the east.

Chp 13 - It took us three hours to get to Epsom - the roads were frozen into hard ridges.

Chp 11 - They let me out very early. The cobbled walkways and courtyards were empty...

Chapter 10 - this is still touch and go for me
