Heart Of Darkness ✔️
It's a shame this one was written for a magazine in 3 parts, it easily could have and (in my opinion) should have been a 300 or 400 page book. But that's what paid the bills back then. The good news is that Apocalypse Now seems to have captured the shear insanity of the situation that Joseph Conrad perhaps failed to convey in totality with only 110 pages. 4 stars for Heart Of Darkness from me.

still very good. I have finished the Apple Tree and the Prussian Officer, which were the next 2 stories. This book does not disappoint and is filled with marvelous stories.

I finished the first story and I really liked it! I’m on the second one right now, and it’s a different genre than the first one, but I still like it!

I almost finished The Heart of Darkness. I love reading books like this (late 1800’s to early 1900’s) because of the feeling I get. They kind of have a surreal feeling to them, or like someone is telling them on a warm summer night. The Heart of Darkness is an amazing tale of a steam boat captain, who works for an ivory mining company, and his experience.

"But she was not unused to war. Once bandits had looted their village, and houses had been burned then, too. Well, not it happened again. Burning houses one could see often, but not this darting silvery shining battle in the air. She understood none of it -- not what those things were, nor how they stayed up in the sky. She simply sat, growing hungry, and watching." (The Old Demon, by Pearl S. Buck, p. 374)
