Interesting read so far which appears to deal with issues of identity, belonging and colonisation. I've hit a bit of a wall with Salih's writing however, as it's currently a bit overindulgent and flowery for my liking. This could just be burnout from having read a good portion of the book over the last two days though. I shall report back later 🫡

I see a lot of my own writing in Salih’s, but he does it better. There is the fantastical, the mystical, the hopeful, the repetitions, the allusions, the contrasts, the lyrical and absurd. Towards the end, we see the two worlds collide and separated simultaneously. Despite his poetic and grandiose writing, Salih seems to engage with realism: he avoids categories and labels, and emboldens humility.
