It took Some­thing Some­thin­givić seven min­utes to drown, the night he stepped out of the cabin of the Tanets to re­lieve him­self and was swept into the roil­ing ocean: the seven long­est min­utes of his life. He knew he was go­ing to drown; maybe he al­ways had known he would drown; but he de­cided to drown slowly, to drown with in­tent, to drown in his own good time.
