jesus christ why does no one put trigger warnings on these things

tw: mental violation. the three protagonists are captured and have a mental geas put on them that shocks them whenever they think of rebellion, and now they're in slavery. nothing more overt has happened yet but I feel sick to my stomach and would have appreciated a warning

I just read a description of a nebula that took my breath away; I regret that this isn't an ebook so I could share it with you easily.

reading the omnibus edition, the page count is off, blah blah blah anyways I love this book 50000%. the premise makes it sound like it'll be doom and gloom but it isn't. it's awful for ten pages and then Silence the heroine is off on a new adventure and it's tough for her but fun to read. Also, the way FTL works in this universe is SUPER creative, with alchemical symbols being involved.

It's not bad so far but not...amazing either?
But I'm so tired of The All-Oppressive Patriarchal Society which a) forces the heroine into the plot and b) shows us how Bad the antagonist is

and this isn't really fair to this book since it was published in 1985

but I live in the patriarchy and I'm tired of reading about it, or at least tired of reading about patriarchy without nuance *sigh* onward~
