Includes an Appendix for the numerous statistics provided, ten pages of Notes, an Index, and a 34-page Bibliographic Essay that I look forward to reading.

It’s puzzling how an editor allowed this to be printed with the phrase “peculiar institution” used so frequently and unnecessarily that I’m going to stop reading this for a while and resume at some future time.

Back to reading again, after a long, long period of being unable to sit down with a book. Being able to engage with these minds again is a remarkable feeling.
Anyway, this is a classic from Kolchin. Full review to follow once I'm done, but I highly recommend this very tight and focused work for anyone who wants to understand the realities of slavery in America.
