Ok, just read a review where the person was complaining about reading about the repeated stories of the US/UK “savior” who kept saving the foreign human trafficked victims. Ummm…so because the way are from the US/UK, they SHOULDN’T try to help others?!? If those from the US/UK have the resources to help, shouldn’t they do so?? Should they not help because it smacks of “white savior complex”??

I should not be reading this book in public. Trying SO hard not to cry right now. What people can do to others is disgusting and brutal. The poor victims of human trafficking.

“Indeed, more slaves are in bondage today than were bartered in four centuries of the transatlantic slave trade. Nowhere has its impact been felt more brutally than on children in the underdeveloped nations. Slaveholders prey on the defenseless, and children so easily become vulnerable.”

“Nearly two hundred thousand people live enslaved at this moment in the United States, and an additional 17,500 new victims are trafficked across our borders each year.” From a three year study published in September 2001. Again, I’m sure those numbers have grown.

“Twenty-seven million slaves exist in our world today.” This book was published in 2007, almost twenty years ago. I’m sure that number has increased. The first sentence of the book and already I feel sick.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. As such, I will try to read one book about the topic to keep those suffering from it in my thought and prayers and to keep my eyes open. It can be anywhere.
