I struggle with journalist style of narrating and just couldn’t tolerate listening any longer. I thought it had good content. I’m keen at present to read more content that is explicitly about advanced ADHD knowledge and strategies for management.

Useful for other invisible conditions! I feel very validated in my depression.

Who knew that consuming vitamin c (or anything that makes your pee more acidic) straight after your stimulant medication will cause you to excrete the medication faster and reduce the amount of time its effects last? Not me!

I do hope she brings up the fact that /because/ many people with adhd try to find social circles who accept their neurodiversity even before diagnosis, that also plays into the “why so many people you know are getting adhd diagnoses”
Like yes mom, it’s called being “peer reviewed.”

Personally triggered by the “being late to the zoom call because I Have To Fix The Problem Directly In Front Of Me And That Alarm We Snoozed Wasn’t That Long Ago”
For legal reasons, I must clarify that I was not trying to fix a broken plant pot with clay and this is a joke.

“Most psychiatrists aren’t as interested in the touchy feely shit and then he referred me to a therapist.” Stooooooop I thought I was the only one spilling their life to a PsyD who’s just going “okay yeah please just take your meds and go, I don’t care about your expensive day planners that go unused.”

Genuinely love the intro and how Boseley says right up from that this isn’t an exhaustive or all encompassing look at adhd but does cover a good chunk of the standard “but what do you mean you have it?” Conversation

So far Matilda has touched on so many poignant points relevant to the modern day experience of ADHD, and done so especially well from the lens of a girl/woman. Most unexpectedly, the book is densely packed with information from research, which has really altered my perspective. I also love her analogy of ADHD symptoms as the ringed walls around the Earth Kingdom in Avatar the Last Airbender aka Ba Sing S-ADHD!

"The good news is, there are actually ways to [make living with ADHD less exhausting]. The bad news is, they are going to therapy, eating healthily, getting enough sleep and exercising regularly."

Not everyone has nice things to say about this book but to be honest I am finding it relatable and easy to read and connect with - its not meant to be written by a doctor - but a real person!
