Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf meets The Stranger by Albert Camus

It is good. A very well written portrait of modern society. Full of lies and codes. I loved it. It was hard to read. The pages are thin and the fond is very small. Sometimes I couldn’t continue . So this was a bit uncomfortable. The book itself: Simone de Beauvoir.

guter, schneller, konsistent erzählter Roman über eine Werbetexterin, die sich in eine existenzielle Krise hineinmanövriert. Im Präsens erzählt, filmisch, mit überzeugenden Übergängen und inneren Monologen. Angenehm, nüchtern, melancholisch ... etwas entrückt, entfernt, die Entfremdung explorierend.

Perfektes Buch um jeden Tag im Café angesprochen zu werden 11/10

A short existentialist fiction ft. feminist & Marxist critique of mid-20th century French bourgeois culture? Simone de Beauvoir's non-fiction is incredible, don't know why I'm surprised that this book is so good. The translation / edit has had a few glaring, weird issues so far (particularly noticeable because de Beauvoir's literary style is already so unconventional), but it's a great read.

Het perspectief is ondertussen opgehelderd. Het leest makkelijk maar behandeld tegelijkertijd thema’s die meer van je vragen. De persoonlijkheid van de hoofdpersoon komt steeds sterker naar voren maar zegt dingen over zichzelf die ik misschien anders benoemd had. Het is leerzaam.

Het perspectief is even wennen in het begin. De introductie van de personages is amper aanwezig. Men leert ze pas kennen door herhaling en later door omschrijvingen en observaties. Er wordt niet tegen de lezer gepraat.
