Does the word "love" confuse you? Do you feel ashamed of who you are? Guilty? Worthless? Depressed? Not enough? Do you feel exhausted of people pleasing especially mother pleasing? ... What about your mother: is she practical? Strict? Demanding? Hard to please? Confuses you emotionally? Abuse you verbally or emotionally? Always take the credits? Demand appreciation more? Doesn't feel for you? ..

It bothers me that Forward is separating 'painful effects of unloving mothers' such as "the steamroller of a mother's narcissism, emotional abandonment, or being forced to be a caretaker" from 'being abused'. Physical abuse is NOT the only form of abuse. It is disappointing that Forward is now buying into that myth. It is very dismissive of the rest of us.

Ach! She's advising people to release helium balloons with messages attached to the string. HORRIBLE idea! The balloons, and their strings, are harmful to both wildlife and the natural environment. Please do NOT release helium balloons to drift away outside.

Just finished the first half, descriptions of unloving mothers. Three cherries. Actually five cherries, my mother shows up in all five descriptions.
On to 'how to heal'. I am hoping that is an easier read.

Nothing explicit about emotional abuse in the abuse chapter, though. Hmm. =\

This is already dropped my stomach and filled it with knots. As a child abandoned then brought back at 21, I FreeTime every word is written for me a d I didn't even realize it was not me, but it truly was her and I've carried this it around to this day. Highly recommend for the sample, I immediately bought the book after reading the first few pages.
