I think I like Anh Do even more now, and I really liked him anyway - a terrific story, and I love his honesty and his Anh Do-Ness ;-)

A real easy and enjoyable read. Not a joke book but Anh is naturally funny in his story telling. Made me laugh out several times.

Finding this really hard to put down at the moment. Such an intense beginning, but it’s amazing to see how Anh can still see the funny side of many dire situations. The anecdotal tone mixed with his quick wit makes reading this a breeze.

A totally enjoyable romp through the early years and boat escape, through growing up poor, to achieving his goals, Ahn Do shares it all. The Audio version is let down by his reading style, though he speaks perfect English, it’s often stilted, with pauses in the wrong place.
Keep painting, smiling and living the dream.

I read this for the first time in year 8 after reading an excerpt for English and searched the library for the book. 6 years later I decided to purchase the book myself after finding a strange desire to re-read this book. I think it’s cause I kept seeing Anh Do on the Uber Eats ads on Youtube HAHAHA

Wow, Anh has a way of building up happiness and then toppling it down.

Vừa đọc xong The Happiest Refugee của Anh Do vừa cười sặc sụa vừa cảm thấy nhớ nhà. Những điều mình tưởng chừng như rất ư là bình thường như cái chuyên người miền Tây hay gọi nhau bằng thứ tự như điểm danh trước mỗi bữa ăn, mỗi tối trước khi đi ngủ.

"Khoa, the baby dangled over the side of the boat by the pirates, the toddler that Mum dressed in little girl's dresses, the fat kid who thought the homeless woman was going to eat him... had just won Young Australian of the Year."

Usually when memoirs include sections of photos I don’t find them very interesting, but I teared up whilst looking at the first lot of Anh’s photos. The decline of his parent’s relationship, his brother’s weight going down after his father left, his sister transforming from a self conscious little girl until a beautiful woman - and amongst it all, Anh still has that award-winning smile.

Really good so far, lots of bombshells dropped in the earlier chapters soon to be followed up by the later chapters

Really interesting book. I'm not normally into biographies...but I'm reading this one for school and actually really enjoying it.

Easy to read, but because I have to read it for school I’m not enjoying it as much as I should be.
