Status Updates From Starship Troopers

I was surprised how much the book reminded me of his earlier juveniles - both are first-person novels, and the voice of Johnnie Rico is not much different than the voice of Bill Lermer from "Farmers in the Sky".

I had never read Heinlein before so I went into it fairly blind. It’s very heavy on the inner workings of the military and I found myself bogged down by the complexity of it at times. That said I enjoyed the philosophical themes explored such as duty, sacrifice, governance/citizenship (only veterans can vote), brotherhood etc.. A solid 3 stars and I’ll probably read it again or try other books at some point.

I've certainly read a German translation back in the 1980s or so - it's still on my bookshelf. I don't think I ever read the original until now, but so far it's painless...

Starting to understand what the book is about. Not sure if it’s taking a definitive side yet or just presenting a variety of ideas on civilizations and militarism
