Such an easy read! I love this series!

"Too many women mistake a man's hostility for wit and his silence for depth" (194). I desperately want to rewrite that line, but it's still a good one.

There might have been a chance I'd read this far in the series from a copy bvporrowed from my mom. But no. I would have remembered "bellhumans" and "girl stewardperson". The replacement for the more obvious "bellhop" and "flight attendant" or even simply "steward" seem snarky, I fear I am reading a mystery by an anti-feminist republican trying to be clever? The use of "girl" to describe a grown woman? Sad and dated.

Ok, up to this point in the book, I have been ok with the Dallas as the setting. It was mostly in a hotel, so, being familiar with the Hotels in DFW around the 80s, I had a rough idea which one I could image.
But then, they talked about how "Dallas imports water to keep the desert at bay". WHAT?!?!? Dallas is NOT a desert location - it's prairie land. If it is not industrialized, it is grassy fields.

Kinsey has some adventures of Dallas.

Very fast paced

[Oh, I feel heckin smart right about now. Something mentioned in passing about 20 pages earlier made me go "Wait a sec........." and now it just came back around and I was like "Bam, I fucking knew it" and if I were able to leave my apartment, I'd make the best PI ever obviously.]

"In some ways, I didn't care so much about the nature of the truth as knowing what it consisted of."

"I'm not bitter. I'm realistic."

Now we're getting the backstory, and encountering the real villain. Kinsey is caught up in the ride, partly because she can't give up on an unsolved mystery and partly because she's unable to escape her captures.

Kinsey has gotten caught up in one heck of a crazy, redneck, missing money caper. So far no murders though, just the nature death of the one guy who knew where the loot is hidden But Kinsey can't resist a mystery.

Look up showed up today!

Pretty good read. Enjoying it. Fun watching Kinsey chase a possible bad buy, get into his hotel room, search around, etc. etc. Very cleverly and realistically done.

Audiobook

That was almost 100 pages of filler, at least it felt like filler, nothing seemed to happened that required all that drama. Kinsey keeps saying she is the perfect liar but confronted by one rent a cop she completely folds and all but gives up the game.

Cringe worthy story from last update. Feels like filler, really do we need that much detail about an airplane cabin? or a hotel room?

Not sure I am up for this level of mean people. Bad people sure but some of these people so far ugh.

Listening to the audiobook of this book.

I need something lighter to read for now and I liked these books in middle school. My grandparents used to buy them for me!

Ah, to randomly jump on a plane to Palm Beach, Florida with a Swiss Army Knife in your purse for $1,000 (round trip, open-ended) and have a rope all to yourself - even if it is 9 o'clock at night. Those were the days!

Uh oh. This is going somewhere very interesting, but Kinsey won't even get paid for it!!

I’m about half way through but I almost gave up at 20%. Kinsey has always been catty about other women but this book has been awful - three nasty passages about a background character who this far has spoken about three (perfectly courteous) lines to Kinsey. Really put me off. I’ve enjoyed the story aside from this and the ridiculousness of it!

Fun start

Weird book. Most action takes place away from Santa Teresa. The ending was definitely a surprise.

I honestly don’t remember reading this the first time through. So yeah for an old book feeling like something new. We also have Kinsey in Texas for some of this book which changes things from the usual Santa Teresa setting. BTW the way Grafton describes this place and time of year makes me long for CA in the autumn. Maybe I’m just craving the smell of wood smoke.
