“the studious examination of the past in the greatest of detail does not teach you much about the mind of History; it only gives you the illusion of understanding it.”

“Isn’t it strange to see an event happening precisely because it was not supposed to happen? What kind of defense do we have against that?”

love it when a book has slight psychological innuendos

Quite insightful to this point. Inciting some quite uncomfortable self-reflection.

Pirmā pasaules kara laikā cilvēki nedomāja, ka tas būs pasaules karš. Autors atsaucas uz vēsturnieku Niall Ferguson, kurš aplūkoja obligāciju cenas, kuras palika gandrīz nemainīgas. Tās krītas, ja tiek gaidīts karš. Tas nozīmē, ka karu neviens negaidīja. Interesanta zemsvītras piezīme un arguments.

Point 1.

Reads horribly. Authors consistently overcomplicates ideas that could’ve been a few sentences.

The author is insufferably full of himself. I guess this book is beneficial to read but this guy seems like he would be awful to interact with in real life.
