One shocking part was when Jen showed up at the Shiva to tell Judd that she was pregnant with their child.Jen cheated on Judd and this baby was surprisingly still his. "This child of ours will be shuttled sadly between us, lonely and not quite sure of his place in the world"(137).This is shocking because just as their lives fall apart, this baby creates yet another obstacle they have to work through.

Reminds me why I typically stick with female authors. It is funny and the characters are interesting but the vanity, dress size, and sex object status of every single woman/girl apparently must be described in great, condescending detail. "Pretty in a forgettable way", "women of a certain age shouldn't giggle", etc. Tropper seems obsessed with body as representation of character, and clearly hates fat people.

I really enjoy this book! It deeply explores the life of the narrator in all aspects- his family, his (ex)wife, his father’s death. It is very interesting to see the progression of his life, from his stories in the past to his present life.

One sad part was when Judd and his family were sharing stories about them and there dead father while sitting shiva. When Judd was recalling memories with his father, all he could think about was how proud his dad was of his other siblings instead of Judd. "I wonder what I could distinguish myself as, other than a waste of space"(95). This remark shows how depressing and unconfident Judd is about himself.

This book is so raunchy but I really like how the story went so far xD

One part that was disappointing was that when Judd threw away his future for his girlfriend.When in love with Jen,he thought it was more important to keep Jen satisfied, then to get good grades.This was a mistake because he ended up with an unsuccessful life."I used all my energy toward keeping her happy,the future would sort itself out."(66)This action was disappointing because he is now left with a depressing life.

He believed that he and his wife had a deep, true connection with each other until he was betrayed. "There's not much I'm proud of when it comes to the weeks that followed. I shaved the beard and gained 15 pounds."(31) This shows that Judd was having trouble moving on once his life fell apart."

I don't mind "adult humor" but this feels like it was written by a raunchy 10 year old who just learned about curse words and sex. This is a chore and, frankly, I'm not sure I'm gonna make it through.

OMG but like how true is this?! No one ever says someone's baby is ugly. Well at least not to their face.

I wanted a family dynamic novel and I thought this would be good but its mostly the horny inner thoughts of a 32 year old man. It's getting a bit tiresome to read. He's 32 not 14 he should not be this ridiculous towards women.

I fell in love with this movie way before I picked up this book. If you haven't seen it, watch it at least twice & fall in love like I did.

On that note, the book is equally fantastic. The differences are not ones that make or break liking either the book or the movie. The author creates a totally different image than the movie for some characters.

Jonathan Tropper is killing me with his humor and his sarcasm. Really good.

Hilarious and sad at the same time! Reminds me a lot of watching Californication and I miss that show.
