I'm dying. This book is hysterical so far.

Hilarious, irreverent story of a family sitting shiva.

I think I’m just going to abandon this book. It’s good and it’s painfully realistic, but I just hate that the whole thing is half about an affair and that there are affairs everywhere. That’s such a turn off for me

I had to stop reading at page 52 because this book got too sad :( I appreciate the humor the author uses often to lighten the mood in this book

So witty and funny!

Watched the movie first— LOVED IT! Was worried I would be bored with the book as I already know the story, but that isn’t the case. It’s quick-witted and keeps my interest.

Damn it... Lad-lit is not for me...

Great easy read

I'm torn between loving the way this is written and also worried that another 60% of the book written in this way is going to get tiresome.

I love Tropper’s writing but if I gotta read about one more fat person and how gross they are...

The writing is absolutely superb... really get a visualization which means the author has a wonderful way to show the reader rather than preach and tell. Effortless joy to read.

So far, Judd is highly descriptive and that's not always a good thing, lol.

I am loving the bitchy banter between the siblings here!

I can already tell this is going to be one of my new favorites. Jonathan Tropper reminds me of Nick Hornby.

OMG, the baby monitor incident is hilarious!

Driving a Porsche is like %^#$ a model...it will never feel as good as it looks.

One sad part was when Judd was being selfish and inconsiderate toward his brother. Judd was only thinking about himself and how numerous events affected him, but didn't to realize that his own brother sacrificed his scholarship and more for Judd. "Going to Rusco's house was stupid...but I went there for you"(278). Judd and his brother did not have a communicative and grateful relationship throughout there lives.

"A good speech is like a woman skirt; short enough to cover your attention and long enough to cover the subject."

To have nothing when you're halfway to 70 is like setting out to drive cross country without any gas money.

One confusing part was when Jen was talking to Judd about the baby. She was trying to stay positive about their future relationship with their upcoming baby. Jen may have also been talking about getting back together with Judd. " We can do this, right"(258). This shows that Jen may not only be talking about having faith in raising the child, but also having faith in saving their marriage.

I love this movie so I had to give the book a try. It’s the perfect read for the mood I’m in right now.

FINALLY picking this up after watching the movie multiple times over the past couple of years. I love it so much. Will probably have to rewatch as soon as I’m done.

One trait to describe Judd is insecure. He is insecure because his wife cheated on him and is now pregnant with his baby. He is worried that he will not fill the expectations of being a good father to this child. "Now any chance of a clean break is gone, and as a single father I have become, even more pathetic"(210). This shows that Judd's insecurity occurred because of his wife's affair, and the baby.
