I am REALLY enjoying this one! The scene between Jack Pumpkin head and the Scarecrow had me in stitches. Tip is also a lot more interesting than Dorothy.

all of a sudden the tin woodman has a name - why did no one use his name in the last book !

Looks like I've well and truly hit re-read mode - I am most keen for the princess with the cabinet of heads that has stuck with me all these years

I was on board with the revolt when they said men have been in charge for too long but then they said that the gems of the palace were better used for bracelets and necklaces as if that's the only reason women would want to turn over power

I lied it was the witch that made the mistake - why would she tell the boy her plan to turn him into a statue

I like that this kids reaction to turning into a marble statue was just to complain and not to run away from the witch making the potion

Nice.....

PLOT TWIST

This book is straight up bizarre and now I know why there wasn't a sequel made to the original Oz movie. A pumpkin head and sawhorse are in Oz now, meeting the Scarecrow (who took over after the Wizard left), and now Oz is being revolted against.

It is good and very hard to read since I’m reading it on Croatian.

It's weird to me that Baum makes a big thing about this being an American fairy tale, yet Scarecrow being "the choice of the people" is negated by some unknown girl having royal blood.

No, actually...Jack makes a good point. If Glinda already knows that the Emerald City has been conquered, you'd think she wouldn't wait around for you to come begging for assistance.

Since later books will establish that they don't use money in Oz, we missed a joke where they cram the Scarecrow full of green clothes without realizing that they have any value.

"As he road Jack noticed that the grass and trees had become a bright emerald green in colour..."

Haven't we established that Jack is colorblind?

But...Jack doesn't have ears, either...

How does he know all this? The Wizard being a fraud is still supposed to be a secret, isn't it?

I like that children were specifically asking for a sequel with the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodsman. I'm not alone in thinking that the Lion was the least interesting of the trio.

This is a re-read as I am continuing with my readthrough of the Oz books. I am enjoying it and have found the characters fun to follow along with. A read I wish I had done many years ago.
