An unexpectedly marvelous read indeed! I thought we would trudge through it for the sheer fact of exposing ourselves to more of Baum's works, but this proved to be even more whimsical and fantastical and ridiculous than the first! I'm glad we "endured" it together as a family. I look forward to reading more about our friends in Oz.

"It seems strange," said he, as he watched the Tin Woodman work, "that my left leg should be the most elegant and substantial part of me."

For the first time, Ellie looked me dead in the face, and was actually listening to me read. It was like she suddenly noticed that the words I was saying weren't mine.
...and then she snatched the Kindle out of my hands, and started licking the cover.

Puns are serious business in Oz. Trust me, Woggle-Bug - you do *not* want to mess with Scarecrow.

Ah, still the same problem. The world and the idea is nice, but I can't get into the writing...and now all the girls are even depicted as super silly creatures.

Oh how I wish everyone would read the original series before our even after Dorothy Must Die. You can already see bullying. : ●

Had to take a quick break from zombies to try and catch up on my adventures in Oz to finally read through the entire series to get to fully understand the complexities of how Dorothy Must Die came to be. Which I'm so excited to read. With the knowledge I'm gaining from reading Baum's original tales of Oz, No Where Like Home, the prequel to DMD is going to have such profound meaning.

The start of this series already reminds me of the sequel movie of return to OZ with Jack the Pumpkin head. I'm curio to see what other political and social agendas Baum is going to address in this book sequel to The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz.

A few thoughts.
Scarcrow discusses civily with the Jack that they need interpreter.
Scarcrow doesn't exhibit brains he now knows he has.
The female "villians" are perfect, absolutely what the original story SHOULD have had.
The Queen mouse just walks through illusions? no explination why she can.. when everyone else fears it.
The Tin Man is "Nick Chopper" why?
