this has even more perspective switch to equivalent conflicts at other points in space and time among other species, with analogous characters that the protagonists feel their perspective melding with - really difficult to describe but it's the most memorable thing about the series

it's really trippy, between this and the post-apocalyptic science fantasy setting I can see how Moebius took cues from this

I love Delany's worldbuilding here, eg the effort into creating a genuinely different post-apocalyptic civilization that really blurs the science-fiction/fantasy distinction, he also gets a lot of mileage out of "sufficiently advanced alien" trope by setting the human conflict up as a greater struggle by two godlike and incomprehensible intelligences' proxies, ESPECIALLY because of the minimal exposition
