Interesting twists already. The description of Jesus doesn't match tradition, nor does His relationship with Judas.

Judas is the author's mouthpiece, and he comes very close to making a fool of himself. Still, it's a very fun story.

Worst line: "You know the Bible is rather Western-world centric."

This uttered by a 2,000 year old man who talks like a psuedo-intellectual and as a Jew, should know that the Bible is not at all western-centric but is actually near-eastern.

It's interesting. Almost a Battlefield Galactica meets Da Vinci Code story. Mayer is an excellent researcher and his story has layers of factual truth, even if he does make a few mistakes. The writing is good, but the dialogue doesn't sing like it could.

Mayer's genius is stacking a series of unbelievable, conspiracy theories against each other in a way that the novel becomes if not believable, at least plausible.
