"Testing of each level of assembly was expensive, but the cost of early testing paled in comparison to the epsense of tearing apart a unit, reworking and retesting it, as well as the consequent costs in schedule delays or loss of needed capabilities in orbit."

Well... this book should be MANDATORY reading for any space systems engineer. Piece parts evolution always gets short shrift and shouldn't!
