Status Updates From Introducing Descartes

I’m enjoying it so far! Seems to be a good light read. Maybe a little lacking in depth, but then again I’m not that far into it.

This “guide” is refreshing my mind of what i already knew while going beyond. It’s definitely preparing me for the further reading i plan to do. Descartes has always been a favorite of mine, despite not knowing more than the “basics”

“God may well exist, but not because of the Causal Adequacy Principle. Ideas in the mind are “real” in a very different sort of way from the way in which things or beings are “real” – even divine ones. It seems that some of the old Scholastic doctrines were still very difficult for Descartes to discard. He was a great and original thinker, but, like all of us, also a product of his time.” - i didnt ask for commentary

This is actually such a fun idea, quite easy for beginners to understand and explains very well while also giving context and linking to their scholars - this is an easy read philosophically speaking!

اینکه اعمال مادی مغز، علت وجود آگاهی باشند فرض مضحکی است. لکن مکان و چگونگی آگاهی باز هم مرموز باقی می‌ماند. همچنین کاملا روشن نیست که چرا اصلا نوع بشر به آگاهی نیاز دارد. امروزه بعضی از دانشمندان گمان می‌کنند که علم با بکارگیری چیزی از قبیل نظریه‌ی کوانتوم که قواعد معمول علیت دیگر در آن کاربردی ندارند، ممکن است بتواند آگاهی را تبیین کند

عقل ما می‌تواند به سرعت مفهوم دوازه ضلعی را درک کند، ولی غالبا برای تصور کردن شکل آن دچار مشکل می‌شویم

Pages 82-150 are a wonderful romp through the problems of perception, consciousness and the physical nature of life.

I’m finally reading this book because 370 years ago today was the death of Descartes.

Menyelongkar Descartes pemikiran ttg keraguan sebagai ilmu dan dualismenya -meskipun secara santai lewat teks dan grafik- tetap memerlukan kefahaman yang sabar. Mungkin Descartes sudah agak mesra, pemahamannya lebih mudah berbanding pembacaan pertama buku dengan gaya yang sama tentang falsafah, teori kritikal dan pascamoden.

Buku pertama 2012. Melihat secara santai permasalah umat manusia pada zaman modan apabila Descartes menganggap keraguan itu sebagai ilmu.
