Status Updates From Red Moon

For a thriller, this has been a surprising slog for me. I'm tempted to just not finish it but now that I'm almost halfway done I feel like I need to see it through.

This is really good so far, as I was worried I would have to wait awhile to get any good Werewolf action in this book but, no within the first chapter which is all I have read so far, there is a extremely brutal and awesome Werewolf massacre sequence on a plane that feels like I’m watching a really brutal and gory Werewolf movie and this is the first horror book that feels cinematic like a horror movie.

This is one of the most genuinely fun books I've ever read.

So this book has like a few characters of color (Neal and his daughter Sridavi and these two men (A Black man named Jessie and a Mexican man named Pablo) and all of them end up end up being aides to villainous characters......ok? Like it's obviously more a lack of foresight (and Neal isn't presented as villainous as this group of 3 men) but still. Plus so car this Jessie character has barely gotten any lines

Third instance of slut shaming in this book. I don't think the author is trying to condone it (the doctor and Miriam I don't think are supposed to be morally great and the other character was a villain) but still

Ok I get that the character here is partaking in experiments that probably aren't super ethical (and blatantly making companions to the Holocaust) and the characters here aren't portrayed as the best but it would have been nice to have in text, to say Romani instead of the g slur

You're in a politically charged werewolf novel Claire, of course it's dramatic

Interesting worldbuilding here. They kept mentioning The Lupine Republic and i was confused on where exactly it was but now they mentioned its in Northwestern Europe. Plus i like the mixing of paranormal with science

This situation here makes me think of how society can treat people who have been through horrible things. When you're dead you're idolized and portrayed as a good clean person who can do no wrong but when you're not and if the circumstances look suspicious enough it's "if they breathe they lie", at least that's the vibes I'm getting here

I have to finish this book now, I’m too close to the end - but I certainly have some thoughts to share…

Questionable political themes abound, but definitely very readable… however, if this book ends on an unnecessary and unexpected cliffhanger I will NOT be happy!

I'm just wanting this finished to be honest but I'm not giving up.

This book has a completely different take on werewolves. It's actually somewhat refreshing to read about a world where lycons are acknowledged as people.

Getting some slight Dean Koontz vibes for some reason.

I'm finally recovered from the flu! My brain still feels fogged up and now its been two weeks since I reviewed things. Whoops. But I'm going to try to catch up. Also: start reading again since that fell to the wayside when my brain broke.

Read by the actual author, who has wonderful deep voice for a horror novel

A series of anti-climaxes culminating in the ultimate disappointment.
