One cool this I noticed is that the aftermath of our "modern times" civilization collapsing parallels in some ways the fall of Rome. I wonder if that was intentional on the author's part.
I hope we get some female characters in the next two sections. In part 1, I get it, since we are following Catholic monks, but still.

I love stories that utilize the trope of "far future where things have devolved and they look back on our modern society as strange" and this book is doing a good job with it so far.
