It's weird being so far behind the group. I'm usually one of the ones finished in the first week. I should have this finished in 3 more work days, though.

The narration sometimes feels the need to explicitly spell out implications in a way that suggests to me that Miller's brain works kind of like mine. He's riding the line of too much exposition pretty hard.

Broke down and got the audio version. It helps that my monthly credit became available.

kudos to Miller for being able to ask such pointed questions about his new faith. Nearly done though, and the unanswerable sin of the Catholic church has not been addressed. Miller wrote this in the era of first discovery of the population bomb, why won't he ask?

sooo close...
But thinking back to my pederasty snark, I realize that it was intimated that Don Thaddeau suffered sexual abuse at the hands of the monks who raise him and that Don Paulo responded that he probably imagined it. It is so hard to remember that it was the 60's and this was just the way the hidebound thought back then; just like every time Miller says "lady reporter."

absolutely enchanted with the argument between the hermit and the abbot Paulo in which the abbot pitties the jew for waiting so long for the messiah, when isn't that what christians are also doing, esp 3000 years into the future. ah doublethink.

I couldn't do it with text, but it is such an influential work that I thought I'd better try another crack, this time in audio. Still very dry, filled with religious aggrandizement, and in a book about Catholic priests- curiously little pederasty.
