A really interesting and thought-provoking book until now. Dutch football fans would enjoy this!

I love this quote from Gerrie Muhren on page 122.

“It is only luck that we could play soccer. If there were no crowd, we could not earn money from soccer; we could not see how good we were. We needed the crowd; the crowd needed us - we are part of each other.”

Generally this book explains how the Dutch people think and especially their philosophy. I suggest this book for the football lovers. Ajax and Netherland football teams are the main topics in this book. I really enjoyed white reading it.

The Dutch are a really weird bunch, you know.

The focus shifts back from sociology & politics to football & voila! This has switched gears from passability to awesomeness.

More about Dutch socio-political history than it is about the Clockwork Oranje, but connecting the dots is interesting nonetheless.

Will probably dip in and out of this book - mostly interested in learning about Dutch culture but improving my knowledge of football could be good!

Encountered at least three copy-editing lapses on the last two pages: "hose" instead of "those," a soccer "shout-out" instead of "shoot-out," and describing a "waiter" as a "writer" on second reference. It's getting to be distracting. Got to keep pushing ... almost done.

I may actually finish this book before the next World Cup.

I started this book with the World Cup back in June. Got bogged down for a few months, but I'll get through it, like a goddamn scoreless tie.

OMG! I am already obsessed. In the 1950s, the Dutch were playing a 2-3-5!!!!! How does that work????? How did they go from THAT to awesome? Idk, because I am not that far yet, but my mind has already been blown.
