Spent some time looking up how much the inheritance would be in today's money. It would be NICE.

Yes, I just read ‘this’ book last week but found out there is the original 1930 edition and the revised 1959 edition. I had no idea it had been rewritten! Page 1 is already very different. I look forward to getting to know Nancy in her original form.

There's a certain gormless charm to this rather textbook styled mystery that's more relaxing than anything else I've read in quite a while. Pleadingly innocent, but still with enough adventur and with stock supporting characters that one loves to love and hate. I believe the crotchety caretaker actually says "By Jimeny!" at one point. Quite fun.

Started reading this to have a palate cleanser after a heavy Lit book and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. This is essentially what the pre-Beatles MAYFIELD of Leave It To Beaver would be like if Veronica Mars had happened 40 years earlier.
THAT BEING SAID - I'm qiuite enjoying the over-kind Nancy Drew and her projected Daddy-Issue dad "Lawyer, Carson Drew" a lot more than I thought I might.

Didn't realize Nancy Drew was almost 100 years old (this was first published in 1930) until they mentioned a man's wife dying in the influenza epidemic.

DNF I was feeling sentimental because the Nancy Drew Notebooks were my gateway to loving reading. I found friends in Nancy B & G when I was in 3rd grade. Picking this up now, I found how this story was largely about a white, middle class girl. While I found solace in not being hyper aware of that when I read it before, now it kinda surfaced some other not so pleasant memories about me feeling poor irl thenlol

Within the first 2 pgs, a 5 year old almost gets hit by a moving van & then almost drowns? That has nothing to do with the plot, though..
Little judy rebounds quick thanks to a 16/18 yr old Nancy (do we even know), that can afford a blue convertible during the great depression? I don't care if her dad is a lawyer. . just HOW?
You can't go wrong with some nostalgic N.D. regardless of her secret inner nepo.

There’s a charm to this. A feeling I only get when I watch shows like the Brady Bunch or Bewitched or the Thin Man mysteries. A happy, wholesome, hopeful charm. It feels golden, like kids playing on white porches, eating popsicles in summer, cozy family dinners, sleek chiffon dresses, old cars and chunky corded telephones.
