Really enjoying this so far.

I was enjoying this for a while, but then it seemed as if it was going no where and I just couldn't keep going with it. I was reading reviews on it to see if it was worth picking up again, but according to many others it isn't. ://

Me: "Guys, don't fight, you are both right. You are both jerks and brats." :(

Seriously, I'm not sure if I want to pick up the next book in the series. Dathne and Matt are great, but not enough to put up with Gar and Asher and Fane.

I wasn't leaving the bookstore yesterday without buying a book, hence my newly acquired paperback edition of The Innocent Mage. I had been reading it fairly nonstop all night, waiting for something to happen. The narration is interesting enough and the world building is pretty good, but nothing has happened so far and I'm starting to get impatient. I'm close to seeking out spoilers.

I think my heart broke 20 pages ago...

Asher annoys me a bit. He's kind of a snob, you know the kind of poor folk snob who looks down on the upper class because he just assumes they're looking down on him? Yeah, that kind

I want to punch Asher, hard. And I want to punch Gar, too. The only characters I really like are Dathne and Matt. Dathne can be harsh, but she does so for the sake of saving the lives of many, many people. Asher and Gar are just bloody jerks and egoists who don't care about anyone but themselves.

The Sea Harvest Festival is pure Olken magic, the one Dathne had been speaking of for so long. I just wonder why no one sees it?

I suck at this.

The story is barely moving along, I do wish the plot hurried.

The story might be a bit slow, but mostly i'm just very annoyed at the main character for always being angry and petty. All characters are also either good/bad and really simple, so i'm going to take a break until i'm very bored or out of books to read....

I'm not even reading it now. Just skimming the text, waiting for the end to come. Boring, and predicable, which is saying something as so little happens!!

Still boring. You could cut half the stuff that's written, still keep the plot line and the book will be half its length. But, I'm past half way which is great...

part 2 .... this book is very, very slow... I might have to break my rule and read two books at once. I don't know how much longer I can read The Innocent Mage, nothing excitingly happening and it could have been good!! the plot is there, as are the characters, it's just dreadfully dull...

Getting there! I'm so used to other styles of writing l, I think that's what's taken me so long to get into this book. It's getting there though. Slow at first but it's getting better as I read. I will finish it!!

It's picking up speed but I still feel I'm pushing myself to read it. I know as well if I stop I won't start again... I can do this

I'm 99% sure that the king is being poisoned - I just don't believe he could almost die from overworking, plus he had been feeling unwell and worn out for months. Also, since when did Fane became a brat? Yes, she had an attitude problems such as arrogance and pride, but she never behaved as a spoiled kid until now.

sigh... i feel so awful for both MCs but if they had just COMMUNICATED... ah humans

I'm so glad the whole plotline involving Timon Spake is over. It was important for overall plot and character development, but I'm ready for something more exciting to come.

My only question is, do I let this cliffhanger upset my reading plans??

Liking so far

Oh, so Olken has magic, too? That's an interesting development, I'm looking forward to seeing more of it! And the king is totally incompetent. During one of his Council meetings, he just sits and does nothing while his advisers argue and fight between themselves! How is he supposed to keep order in the country if he cannnot keep order in his own home?

Some time with the royal family! Gar's parents are nice, but both he and his sister are so troubled and messed up in their own way. Seeing Gar's devotion to his father and his willingness to sacriface the future he may have had made me respect him even more.

I'm not sure yet if I like Dathne, but she is certainly interesting and so unlike a typical fantasy female character. Yes, and Asher's accent is charming.

Prince Gar? Come on, even his horse has a more royal name - Ballodair! On the other hand, I think it could be done deliberately: Gar's race all weild magic, and Gar is magicless. Maybe his parents could sense it right after his birth and gave him a commoner's name to mock him? By the way, I rather like the worldbuilding - magic walls protecting the kingdom, Olken and Doranen races, strange prophecies...
