I’ve been jumping between Ted Chiang and Egan which is easy to do since these are both short story collections and both are “hard” sci fi. Both writers are rigorous and use science correctly, but where Chiang is a somewhat sentimental and philosophical writer, Egan’s sci fi is brutally hard and is more of a deep dive into the concepts themselves.
