It’s like Beowulf meets LOTR, good stuff

This is _really_ hard to get into..
Its an old book and the writing style is a tad different to what I'm used to... But perhaps im just not in the mood for it?

this is so slow but so good

this is a very tough read and difficult for me to follow but i love a challenge

it is NOT looking good for the elves

still working at this btw, i've just been too busy at work to read & too distracted by balatro at home. anyway we are DEEP in the workings of a greek tragedy, in all the traditional senses. odin has also just shown up to extract an oath from our lead lady & i'm excited to see where we're going

this is extremely fun so far. so many scenes that could have been lifted straight from the sagas, with a bit of a greek tragedy flair, & elves that remind me greatly of dunsany's fairies. absolutely gorgeous details & writing throughout. we're getting into the meat of the story here & i'm excited to see how it all plays out

this is like STRAIGHT out of the icelandic sagas so far, hell yeah

I do not like this.

I’m loving the worldbuilding in this book! Super classic Celtic vs Christian mythology with even some Norse, Chinese, and Greek mythology thrown in.

"There is much else to tell, of the dragon and his gold hoard, of the burning mountain and the bottomless chasm..."

The is book is a roller coaster of emotions.

cannot give accurate updates on this book because my copy is different but: I am beginning to understand men have a very different conception of what "nuanced female characters" means lmao and why I only have ever seen men recommend this book. imchresting. I do not dislike it but it's very Mantasy

This book definitely influenced Moorcock.

Actually impressed with my ability to follow everything that's going on and all the characters and stuff. Granted there aren't all that many characters, but I get stressed out by fantasy epics a lot cuz my brain can't handle all the details because I'm stupid. But this is great! It's like CONTRA more than one of those J-RPGs. Action! Go!! Rahh!!!

The green-skinned warriors grappled, boomed their cry, and came over the rail of the elf dragon. Skafloc ran to meet them, slipped on the bloody catwalk, and fell between the benches.

I love me a good viking inspired fantasy

Really enjoying this one.

Love how fast paced the story; many modern fantasy writers could’ve easily padded out the length to a doorstopper trilogy. Yet I prefer Anderson’s approach.

Remarkably lyrical prose, reads almost like poetry

Wow. Was loving this classic high fantasy, so beautiful in the beginning. But might have to drop because of the terrible depictions of women. Disgusting description of how she was “still more girl than woman”… really enjoying everything else.
