Going to be reading this very very slowly on my phone. But already I can see that SAGA is the word I might be mentioning. And I mean saga in its old usage as in the Icelandic Sagas... or is it Greenland? Anyways, that is the form we've started out in - recognize the language and the structure.

Story's moving along nicely. The changeling, born of an unholy union between elf lord and troll princess and put in place of Skafloc has now grown into the cruel berserker Valgard, who is now the old witch's weapon of revenge against the elf-adopted Skalfloc.

Skafloc is a stolen viking baby, raised by the elflord, Imric. This does hit the right spots with so far, which isn't surprising as I'm reading it based on the Appendix N of the AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide which provides a list of books for ïnspirational and educational reading" related to D&D. This is the first Poul Anderson work I've read, though it won't be the last as Appendix N lists two others from him.

I hope i have this correct: orm has a sun who isnt christened. Imric the elf used a troll to create a changling that resembled orm's son. He switched these over. He called his step-son Skafloc who being human can handle cold steel. The changling son is called Valgard and is a dour sod?

I'm quite enjoying the story so far...I like the Norse elements. We'll have to see how it continues.
