I liked the idea a lot, but spent half of the story getting more and more irritated that the main character didn’t understand who the second variety was... I thought he got it so many times just to realize that he was just having a friendly conversation (f.ex.).

Savvy is on page 173 of 400

Philip K was so much better at short stories than he was at novels. In a short story he had the luxury of telling the most interesting part of the tale, and not needing to explain the before and after or the why and the how. And that's something he was really really good at. Plus, there wasn't that much room for lazy sexism.
