depends on how we define YA, or it would work as "middle-grade"?
these are Americanisms for describing age related genre's which when I was of such an age didn't exist in my closed and sheltered world.

starts very YA-ish with the main a boy (15-ish) gtowing op on an alien world
reminds me o Downwards to the earth (Silverberg?)
am enjoying!
must be approaching the 'explosive' ending,
but it might be too YA to go out with a BANG

This is really a great story!!

A story for kids I guess. Now I notice that this was written in 1998 *double checks* yup. Well imo it was already 30 years outdated by then. People on another planet with a top technology of tapes and a top security system based on dogs? Yah, sure. *yawns*

Yup yup. Uncle Mike met his lady friend in a bookstore. :)

It's pretty good so far, but the dogs are kind of deus ex machina. Every time the protagonist is in trouble, the dogs save the day. It would be interesting to see the POV of the dogs. "Save Timmy from the well, fire, bad guy with gun. Boy, Timmy sure does know how to get into trouble!" It's not bad, just a tad overused.

Just started I am likeing it so far.
