All these little theological ruminations are very fun for a former Catholic

I only knew the very bare premise of this story going in: time moves backwards. Hello is said in place of goodbye, etc. I was not expecting this to be anywhere near as theologically interested as it is, to the point where each chapter features an epigraph from some theologian of note (Aquinas, Erigena to name a couple). Very excited to read more. PKD was such a visionary. I would’ve liked to share a drink with him.

This is slow going. There is little story, lots of hoopla. Heinlein won this round...Dick seems to be treading water.

This book seemed to have and reviews but I’m? Loving it so far? I guess I do love Dick after all.

Only read about a fifth of this. After not finishing it for quite a while I gave up the gig. Amis’ Time’s Arrow was more engaging and I didn’t even like it. I’ll try PKD some other time. Too many writers hit the ground running for me to see this one languish in my queue.

The robots left a tactical kit at his house for his upcoming attack on the Library. "To his disappointment," all it contains is an gaseous LSD grenade.

He meets a group of Uditi late at night (who are, very unconcealedly, analogies for members of the US Civil Rights Movement). They have "spirit sorguhm", which gives similar effects to the alcohol of the before times, imbibed communally. Recall that sorguhm is a suppository.
They talk, about how his wife is kidnapped by the City Library and they can't go because it's closed now, and randomly the guys suggest an orgy.

Called it: sogurm is a suppository.

Also the Library, suspects in many disappearances and deaths, on a sting first sends out dreaded the Children's Department


Also this book is horrendous from racism and sexism grounds; I'm still holding out for an explanation

I don't understand this timeline... people throw up to eat and for some reason the Library is a horrifying place;
But. Our main character struggles with the moral implications of him, (a married policeman) blackmailing a married woman on his beat to have sex with him... for two chapters; Then he actual damn does it (or suggests it) and is actually confused when she's disgusted?

The other woman, presumably Lotta Hermes, cried quietly, her hand over her face, a huddled shape overshadowed by Mavis McGuire and the Erad. And, Tinbane reflected, four more Erads loitered somewhere in the vicinity, probably in the next chamber of the office. Waiting to take turns at her, he thought; he knew the procedure of interrogation, the shifts which spelled each other at regular intervals.

Poor Lotta, no ones ever had a worst plot development

Staying true to his character, Sebastian doesn't give a damn about the woman he "loves"

This is about the 5th time Sebastian has given up on life and everything
