“I am no more lonely than a single mullein or dandelion in a pasture, or a bean leaf, or a sorrel, or a horse flower, or a humble bumble bee. I am no more lonely than theMill Brook, or a weathercock, or the north star, or the south wind, or an April shower, or a January thaw, or the first spider in a new house.”

I like how Thoreau writes so much and looks closely about all the little things in life like bubbles in the pond under ice and the animals in the trees. You can tell he spent a lot of time appreciating and thinking about these things and it seems like something people don’t do as much these days.

I like his point about an oil and wine cellar so it will be pleasant to expect hard times. Setting aside something to enjoy in hard times I like that idea. I feel like there is a parallel in modern life.

Very interesting discussion of the ant war. His writing of the loon is also very silly
