A different type of read as part of a StoryGraph challenge… loving the illustrations in this it’s a beautiful journal even though I know next to nothing about plants/birds

Eeeeep I'm so excited to read this book! It's been on my radar for years now and my partner found it and got it for me for Christmas so I can't wait to read a little bit of the book each month! I finished January this morning and it was so cozy to read. I'm not sure which part of England Edith Holden is from but I can't wait to read more from her and relive the past with her in the English countryside!

Just finished January, going to slowly read this book throughout the year. Reading each corresponding month during that month.

This book takes me back in time to a floral meadow with beautiful wildlife surrounding me. It’s a little hard to understand her language at times but you can still get the gist of what the author is describing😊 very beautiful & interesting 🤔

“Now the North wind ceases;
The warm South-west awakes,
The heavens are out in fleeces
And earth’s green banner shakes.”

Amidst all the political turmoil and news today, I find this book to be a refreshing note on nature and mindfulness.

Another Wordsworth poem, this one made me go “Well shit.”
“Have I not reason to lament / what man has made of man?”
This Edith Holden is an excellent selector of poetry, I would read a collection she compiled/edited.

Not starting this at the beginning as each chapter is a month, so I'll start at August and read a chapter a month.

Such a beautiful book to keep around, to pick up now & then, to read or just to love the illustrations.

Eu venho lendo esse livro desde o início do ano, deixando pra ler um mês de cada vez. Adoro as descrições, e as ilustrações são riquíssimas. A parte triste é que algumas espécies de animais e plantas retratadas no livro não existem por aqui.

While cleaning out my library, I stumbled upon this book. Let's just say it's no longer a part of my library. Oh, Edith, you are endlessly dry and dull. If only you wrote about how you FELT and what you THOUgHT about the nature and villagers you encountered instead of a log of accounting and writing out other people's poems. Tsk.

I have the facsimile edition of this book from the library, and I love it! It's a direct copy of the original; all the text is handwritten, and Edith Holden's illustrations are absolutely stunning. I want this one!

an enjoyable read on the deck on an early summer day. Charming, and demonstrating a nearly lost art of the amateur naturalist, the author's artwork adds to her notes.
