Status Updates From Loamhedge (Redwall, #16)

A few days till my next audible rental is ready so back to redwall. If I remember correctly, this was one of my favorites the first read.

And thus ends this story, which, despite the lack of previous characters, still holds quite a touching and sentimental plot and wonderful characters.

I kind of wonder if these words written by the two rascals before they sacrificed themselves were words that they came up with or that Martin had spoken to them in a vision?

Ah, the faces of the three young rogues. I can just imagine their surprise when they see Martha walking about.

A comet to signal the coming of Redwallers home. That would be quite a sight.

You know, I can't remember if corn was ever mentioned in previous books?

That is probably the saddest way to end their tale.

And thus ends the Wearet once more. Perhaps for the final time?

And now Bragoon and Saro, two old, wild, and adventurous creatures, are going to sacrifice themselves to save the three young ones.

Everything about Bragoon and Saro in these last few pages is setting off red flags. Of course, the picture of them at the front of the final act, wielding long pikes on top of a tree trunk bridge was foreshadowing too.

Lonna is wielding the longbow of all longbows. No rat is going to outrun its range.

Killed by his own men by mistake. Poetic.

Loamhedge seems to be a lot further than it was last. In "Mattimeo" it was underground, not too far from the giant conifer tree that grew near the Badger and Bell rocks.

Can't trust dormice for anything, it seems.

That's what you get for making a pack of fibs about yourself; everyone teases you on it.

I love how we get Lonna's revenge from the perspective of the rats. They are deathly afraid of their very lives with the badger around, and they can't even hide or eat. Every death is heralded by a scream. Even the image of two rats killed by one arrow is impressive!

This particular description of the Bloodwrath is most chilling.

It seems that all badgers enjoy Dibbuns.

A descendent of the Wearet from "Mattimeo" lives! It's a pity that they aren't used as villains more often.
